Prof. Michael Henry
Keynote Speaker .  Professor at Shibaura Institute of Technology
 
Prof. Michael Henry received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington (Seattle, USA) in 2005, and his PhD in Civil Engineering from The University of Tokyo (Tokyo Japan) in 2010. After obtaining his doctorate, he worked at The University of Tokyo as a researcher for almost two years before moving to Hokkaido University (Sapporo, Japan), where he worked for eight years as an assistant and then associate professor. He is currently a professor in the College of Engineering at the Shibaura Institute of Technology (Tokyo, Japan), where he is carrying out research on infrastructure sustainability, road asset management, and sustainable social systems.

Dr. Kavi Arya

Dr. Kavi Arya is Professor of Computer Science & Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay). He did his B.Sc.(Hons.) in Computing Science from Imperial College of Science & Technology (UK) and M.Sc.(Hons.)/Ph.D. in Computation from University of Oxford. In 1988-90 he worked at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Labs (Yorktown Heights, NY/U.S.A.) with the Animation Workstations Group. He was schooled in Cathedral & John Connon School; (Fort, Mumbai) from 1967-1976. He returned to India in 1990 and worked in various positions in industry including Tata Research Design & Development Centre (TRDDC, Pune) ’92-’94, before joining  IIT Bombay in 2000. 
His first role as faculty was as Program Coordinator of IITB’s ambitious Distance Education Project – training large numbers of students and faculty through remote centres using VSAT (satellite) communication technology. Prof. Arya is convener of the Embedded & Real time Systems Lab (ERTS). He is Principal Investigator of the e-Yantra Project (http://www.e-yantra.org), funded by National Mission for Education using ICT (NMEICT, Ministry of Education), popularizing "Project Based Learning" using robotics in engineering colleges. e-Yantra has trained over 250,000 young engineers in complex engineering skills since 2010. The outcomes are top-rate placements, the urge to do higher degrees and spontaneous startups based on skills taught by e-Yantra. 
Prof. Arya has developed products for agencies such as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and the Indian Army. He spent 2007 on sabbatical with the Mahindra & Mahindra Group as a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) reporting directly to the VC & MD’s office (Anand Mahindra) where he worked to incorporate Sustainability into business strategy.  
He is empaneled on high-level committees such as Technology Development Board (DST) and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). He was member IT Advisory Committee of Metals and Commodity Exchange Clearing Corporation Ltd. (MCXCCL) Ltd. for 3 terms and Member IT Advisory Board of NABARD. He is member of the apex Jammu & Kashmir Higher Education Council (JKHEC) chaired by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of J&K State tasked with implementing the New Education Policy (NEP2020) in J&K state. He is member, Governing Council, KR Mangalam University (Gurugram). and member, Technology & Innovation Committee of FICCI. He is member, Academic Advisory Council, KJ Somaiya University (Vidya Vihar, Mumbai) and member Board of Studies, Information Technology, Mumbai University. He is Member Governing and Executive Boards and Trustee of Mumbai First (https://mumbaifirst.org/)  - an NGO working in the Mumbai Infrastructure and Sustainability space and Co-convenor of Mumbai Sustainability Forum.
